Hello, I’m Emma, and I’m one of four people who have just been given the job of ‘music development networker’, for Gloucestershire Music Forum. I’m a bit new to this blogging thing, so bare with me, but i guess this is a way for you all to keep track of what i’m doing, get in touch, and give me a kick up the backside occasionally (or a helping hand!). I will be working in the Stroud Area, and i’m really looking forward to getting stuck in, finding out what is going on out there that i’m not aware of, and supporting existing and initiating new music making opportunities for the people of Stroud.

This is a pilot scheme, and so we will be creating and developing the job as it goes along, but the aim of Gloucestershire Music Forum is to create a ‘hub’, for musicians, educators, schools, music industry, children and young people, infact anyone involved in music. This will enable all sort of opportunities for new music projects, networking, advice and information, and support to raise the quality and profile of musicians in the area.

A bit about me… Well, i’ve been playing music since the tender age of six, when i started learning trumpet at school. The instrument was bigger than me (well not quite, but i was very tiny as a kid - not that much bigger now for that matter!) But somehow i managed to produce a pretty big sound, and once i started lessons i didn’t really look back. All through my school years i was involved in different Youth bands, school orchestras, jazz bands and indie/pop/funk/rock bands with my friends. I went on to study Jazz at Leeds College of Music, and since then have been in a variety of different bands, been involved in various community music projects and done some teaching. I’m also a Mum, my son Ruben is nearly 4. He’s obsessed with drums, and one of his favourite bands is Iron Maiden!

I think that’s enough for today. I will endevour to keep this blog updated, and try not to bore you all to tears, once i get started its hard to stop me! Anyhow, bye for now.
